Simón Mesa Soto’s sophomore feature seems to ask the question, what if Rupert Pupkin were a Spanish poet who channeled his delusional energies into mentoring someone with actual talent? This humorous film subtly addresses some serious issues, but it's more concerned with themes related to the power and the misuse of art. Ubeimar Ríos makes for a wonderful sad sack in his depiction of the hapless has-been, Oscar Restrepo, who turns out not to be the poet of the title. He's a great example of a movie character trying really hard to have an emotional arc, but is only capable of so much change.
