Yet another sub-par Pixar release that mines the well-worn formula of a misfit who longs to find themselves outside the confines of their family. This time it's a little Sea Monster boy who ventures to land, makes friends, faces prejudice, and finds adventure. The slim narrative allows for many fantasy sequences; the Italian Riviera setting enables some first-rate visuals, but the movie does not earn its emotional highs or lows, nor does it put across its theme of tolerance in a remotely credible way.
