It’s a joy to see legendary German character actor Udo Kier get one of the only lead roles of his 6-decade career, but Stephens’s slight tale of a retired flamboyant hairdresser’s last hurrah offers little to support and build on Kier performance. Feels like a throwback to ‘90s era Sundance indies where "quirkiness of character" seemed valued above all else.
