A live-action classic-Disney-villain-origin-story so contrived and imitative it ranks among the most shameless assembly-line feature in Hollywood history. Stone and Thompson's palpable delight at playing The Devil Wears Dalmation is disarming, but Gillespie’s use of wall-to-wall soundtrack of iconic, expensive hits with such little regard for the lyrics or cultural meaning of each song is so offensive it feels like the ultimate victory of commerce over art.
