The Lonely Island and SNL writer/director Jorma Taccone helms this action movie satire based on the SNL sketch that starred Will Forte in the title role, and Kristen Wiig as his female partner Vicki St. Elmo. Producer Lorne Michaels, by now fearlessly turning even the most unlikely SNL characters into satisfyingly funny feature films, populated the movie with just the right supporting actors, including Val Kilmer as the villainous Dieter Von Cunth, Powers Boothe as the old Colonel who pulls the reluctant hero back into service, and Ryan Phillippe as the young lieutenant who becomes part of MacGruber's team. Dumb but fun.
