Small Axe is an anthology film series created, co-written, and directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, WidowsShame). Each film tells a story about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London during the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Some are based on actual people and events; others are historical fiction.

Twitter Capsule:

Mangrove, the first and most epic of Steve McQueen’s Small Axe anthology, brings to life the 1971 trial of the Mangrove Nine, which exposed systemic racism within London's Police. A few odd narrative choices in terms of what's explored and what seems casually dropped in, but passionate performances and fascinating period detail make it unmissable.
