Another non-narrative best-seller turned into a fictional Hollywood ensemble film, this simple-minded schmaltz-fest features a surprisingly likeable cast who embody their paper-thin characters with a lot more truth and dimension than I was “expecting.” None of the plotlines are as terrible as some of what we got in say, last years Oscar nominated The Help or this year’s Oscar baiting The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, but still there is nothing of substance here and only a few amusing sequences.
